A success story: from the dedicated engineering firm to international plant manufacturer
Dipl.-Ing. Wilhelm Winter founded the company WINTER after the end of World War II in 1945. The young limited company operatedas an engineering firm, already in 1946 an its own production was created at the Ratingen site.
In the early days WINTER produced oil mills, sugar beet presses and sewage pumps.
A little later, the product range included valves, plunger pumps and water-hydraulically driven presses.
In 1964 the son of the founder, Dipl.-Ing. Jost Winter, joined the company. In 1973 he took over sole management. During this period the product range was extended to include design and production of hydrotester for spiral-welded large-diameter pipes, test benches for high-pressure water valves and special machines for the mining industry.
In the early sixties precision engineering extended the portfolia with the development and production of antenna rotors with the corresponding control units. They are now an important part of WINTER's production program. The long-term customer base in this area includes the European telecommunications central offices (FTZ, PTT ...), regulatory authorities and sovereign services (Bundeswehr and NATO) also companies in the fields of information, communication, satellite gathering and meteorology technologies.
From Ratingen to the world
Since the early seventies, WINTER has primarily specialized in equipment for radiator manufacturers with machinery and appliances for sheet metal processing, such as decoilers, straightening machines, shears, feeders, longitudinal trimmers and cross trimming machines, and especially in fin presses developed for radiator production. These products have been sold by WINTER throughout the world ever since with the appropriate service, spare parts support and the associated maintenance program.
The product range is supplemented by hydraulic drives and cylinders for waste incineration plants and afterburning grates for coal-fired power plants. WINTER acts as component supplier and provides grate drives for power plant builders: The company manufactures, modernizes and provides service and maintenance for energy providers and power plant operators. In addition, WINTER Engineering develops and manufactures application-specific special solutions, such as wet cutting machines, water extinguishing units and low temperature recycling units to contain halon extinguishing units as well as hydraulic presses and special test benches.
In 1994 and 2000, the sons of Jost Winter, Stefan Winter (Dipl.-Ing.) and Thomas Winter (Dipl.-Kfm.) joined in the company. Dr.-Ing. Markus Osterloh has belonged to the company since 2001 and forms, together with Stefan and Thomas Winter, the current management of the company. Jost Winter left the management board in 2007.
